The room was filled with laughter as the Visiting Nuns came and visited the Young at Heart gang for the opening luncheon. The first lunch of the new year was held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 11:30am in the William J Devine Center. Lunch was part of the “hot” lunch program which included Mostocolli with Meatballs, garlic bread, salad and homemade desserts.
Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 9 at 11:30am in the William J Devine Center. Lunch will be roast beef sandwiches, coleslaw and cream of chicken soup catered from Winston’s (159th east of 80th Ave). Entertainment is “The Convertibles”. A group that has its roots in four-part barbershop harmony, but ever since the Convertibles formed in 1997 they’ve grown their musical branches in new directions. Audiences are likely to hear a mixture of doo-wop music from the Fifties and pop music from the Sixties, plus a few jokes — and a few surprises.
We would love to see you there!
The Bonanza raffle tickets are out there. It is the one and only parish raffle. You have received your tickets and you can be a winner by purchasing and by selling. How great is that. Additional tickets are available in the parish office.
The faith family of Saint Julie wishes Fr Bob all the best in his new endeavor as Pastor at Saint Rene. We are so sad to see him move on but oh how lucky the people of Saint Rene are to have him. Best wishes Father Bob!
“Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ” Romans 10:17
It’s good to be reminded that the Ministry of the Lector is not voluntary public speaking and these skills are secondary to what is most important. First and foremost, this ministry is an invitation to a deep and honest reflection of our individual journey with Jesus Christ. Lectors are called to bring all that they are into the presence of God and to appreciate the effect of the Word of God on themselves and to those to whom they proclaim this living text.
Lectors convey, through their readings, a better understanding of the scriptures:
- This communication of the scriptures draws parishioners closer to God, and contributes to the celebration of the Mass
- This ministry rewards both lectors and parishioners through the effective delivery of the Word of God
- Between the text of the scriptures and the parishioners stands the lector, communicating the Word of Life to allow God to touch hearts and lives
- Effective proclamation is intrinsic to the celebration of the Mass. As a part of the Liturgy of the Word we are called to convey the transforming Word of Christ
