Daybreak is a shelter located in Joliet and run by Catholic Charities.
For the past 20+ years, St. Julie parishioners have provided a hot delicious breakfast on the first Sunday of the month as well as Christmas morning.
A typical schedule:
- 4:30am - leave for Daybreak
- 5:00am - arrive and begin to prepare breakfast
- 6:00am - serve breakfast to some very grateful and beautiful people
- 7:00am - clean up what you used and head home!
The shelter is very clean and the folks there all have chores to do once breakfast is over.
Most teams are home no later than 8:00am. Teams are made up of 5 - 10 people and they decide what to make. The warmer months there might be 35 people and in the winter we may serve 80 because of the weather.
This is truly a great ministry for busy people! Everyone has three hours per year to give.
Talk to your friends, family and co-workers!
We are also supported by some generous parishioners who faithfully drop off breakfast items such as bacon, sausage, juice and milk. If you feel called, please feel free to drop off all donations at the office during regular hours and mark them "Daybreak".
There is also an e-giving icon for your convenience marked Daybreak if you choose this method.
Think about it and if you feel this might be a good fit for you or you just have some questions, please give us a call or email.
We thank you and the people of the shelter thank you for your help and your prayers. If you are interested in joining a team to serve those less fortunate, submit your name and email address below.
