Sacrament of Baptism

Sacrament of Baptism

In John’s Gospel we read,

“Amen, Amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God

without being born of water and the Spirit.” (John 3:5).

Baptism forgives all personal sin and washes away the stain of Original Sin (but leaves concupiscence, a tendency toward sin). This sacrament infuses sanctifying grace and is necessary for salvation. Baptism imprints in the soul a character, a certain spiritual and indelible sign, and so can only be received validly once.

Persons of any age may be baptized, from infant to adult. Only the baptized may receive the other sacraments of the Church. The grace received by baptism may be lost by the commission of an actual serious sin (mortal sin).

Baptism at St. Julie Billiart:

Baptisms are normally held twice a month, either on a Saturday or a Sunday at 12:30pm. Parents will take part in a Baptismal preparation session prior to the actual day of the Baptism.
